A Children’s Home Approach

During holiday times 60% of the children go visit family or guest parents, and 40% remain at the Children’s Home. This holiday unfortunately, upon instruction from the Department of Social Development, all our children have to stay at the Children’s Home, within the boundaries of their respective houses.

Social Workers and Houseparents’ have already implemented a holiday programme for each of the 20 homes, to alleviate boredom and frustration for the children. This also means that any planned holiday excursions for the children have been cancelled or postponed.

Visitors or donation deliveries to the Children’s Home would need to follow the measures that have been put in place. These measures will change according to the Children’s Home need. Presently, upon arrival at the entrance to the premises, visitors will be required to clean their hands thoroughly, thereafter security will inform the respective house of the visitor or delivery. The house will then meet the visitor outside at their house’s gate. Visitors will be limited to entering the house.

The Children’s Home is unfortunately not able to accept cash donations on the premises. The public is rather urged to make donations directly into the Organisation’s bank account. The bank details are as follows: Name: Jakaranda Children`s Home, Bank: ABSA Cheque Account, Branch: Derdepoort, Code: 632005, Acc no: 143 014 0724.

With the above said, only food, cleaning materials, toiletries and medical donations can be accepted, and are welcomed. Unfortunately, no clothing donations can be accepted until further notice. The Children’s Home simply does not have the facilities to disinfect mass clothing. The above arrangement will have an undesirable effect on donations that are normally received and will have an impact on the survival of the Children’s Home.

In light of the measures that have been implemented, supporters are encouraged to rather use online shopping facilities, such as Pick n Pay or Dischem portals, and have any essential goods, delivered to the Children’s Home. The Children’s Home is based at 1 Talitha Kumi Street, East Lynne (Derdepoort), Pretoria.

During this difficult time, the Children’s Home is pleading to the public to continue supporting them and getting them through this disaster time.
